I've spent quite a while looking at handbuilt wheel options and by far the most informative website I've come across is www.dcrwheels.co.uk, it covers choices of rims, spokes and hubs in great detail including wooden rims - if that's what floats your boat. It seems to give good comparisons between the products available.

Makes for interesting reading.

Strada and Wheelsmiths are other options but the information is not as detailed.

My mate in Manchester "Wills Wheels" builds a lot of wheels for some of the top track racers in the country and has been going for years.
