Clumber Park to Sherwood Pines MTB ride

ian_smithOn Saturday the 13th June, 3 riders from BDCC decided to ride their mountain bikes from Clumber Park to Sherwood Pines on the trail known as NCN6. This route had been discussed numerous times but never achieved.  It had forecast heavy rain all day however enthusiasm wasn’t dampened.  The journey from Brigg takes an hour from the M180 to M18, then A1 South, alternatively an hour from Caistor via Gainsborough and Retford.

On arrival we parked past the cricket pitches, easily accessible for facilities such as bicycle hire. The weather forecast for once was correct and torrential rain was the order of the day. We got togged up with our schoolboy grins and set out for the day down towards the lake. We soon found and followed the first sign for the NCN6 route into the unknown where the route is well sign posted and takes in some scenic woodland. Continue reading

From the boards of Llandegla to the peaks of Scotland, the UK has some excellent trails for mountain biking and here are ten trails in no particular order definitely worth a ride!

Dalby Forest, Yorkshire - Dalby forest mountain bike trail centre is a modern trail centre with green, blue, red and black routes giving something for all abilities. The trails are good for all weathers and it does get busy in the summer. It also has a cool bike park with jumps and a pump track. Green is suitable for beginners with basic bike skills – the trails will be relatively flat and wideBlue is for riders with intermediate off-road riding skills – the trails will have some single track sections and small obstacles such as tree roots and rocks.Red is for proficient mountain bikers with good off-road riding skills and fitness. The trails will have challenging climbs, tricky descents and technical features such as drop offs and large rocks.Black trails are designed for expert mountain bikers with high levels of fitness and the trails will have greater challenge and difficulty.
